U.S. Embassy in Myanmar
Security Alert – September 2, 2022
Event: In the last 48 hours, the U.S. Embassy in Myanmar has noted eight Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks in Yangon. Five of the IEDs detonated at unspecified locations across five townships, and two IED attacks targeted government facilities in downtown Kyauktada: near the Yangon City Hall and at the State Lottery Directorate. The last IED attack occurred at a ward administration office in Insein township.
Although attacks can happen anywhere at any time, the data makes it clear that government buildings and roadside checkpoints are increasingly being targeted by IED attacks. The threat of being in the wrong place at the wrong time remains a primary concern. To that end, we ask that all to remain aware of the environment and carefully consider their movements throughout the city.
