Man charged with attempting to commit terrorism

COOKEVILLE — A 56-year-old Cookeville man who was found with a stolen handgun and an active explosive device was charged Friday with attempting to commit an act of terrorism.

William David Cope, of Sliger Road in Cookeville, was charged in the incident after law enforcement authorities were dispatched to his residence in reference to a disturbance.

According to Lt. Carl Sells, an investigator at the Cookeville Police Department, officers were dispatched to Cope’s address around 10 a.m. on Friday after receiving a call from the Veterans Affairs Crisis Hotline reporting active threats being made by Cope.
